Hey everyone,
Has anyone ever heard of adventure racing? Basically it's a team event in which you're given a starting point and an ending point, a rough amount of miles, and tools you'll need. You and your team find your own route to the finish. Usually it involves mountain biking, trekking/hiking, and kayaking/canoeing. The teams are between 2 and 4. Looking for anyone that might be interested. The event I'm looking at is in early December, so we'd have plenty of time to train. $25 per person for the race of their life!!
e-mail me at leilah.krohn@asu.edu with any more questions!!

Yea! We've got a number of people in the club who keep talking about doing one of these... we should officially set up a team or two. I'd be in.

I'm definitely interested....I've never done one since they are usually expensive, but 25$...that's nothing! I'm big into running and love to mountain bike:).

Hey guys,
Here's the info from the website:
Adventure Race
Twelve team orientated tasks must be completed before crossing the finish line. Think outside the box as you race, mountain bike, kayak, rock climb, map read, reason, and work together. This adventure race is considered a sprint event with top teams finishing within 90 – 120 minutes. Maps and course descriptions will be provided shortly before the race begins. This is a community based family adventure race. It will provide a challenge to any athlete that participates while allowing participants of varying fitness level to compete. Each athlete will need a:
* Mountain bike * Running shoes * Goggles
If we register by Nov. 6th, it's 75$ for the 3 person team (i.e $25 a person). If you all are still interested, we should meet and look over some possible options for training, transport, etc...thanks!!

Cool! I'm still interested. Where is it being held?

It's being held in Anthem, AZ. If you take the I-17 North, you'll exit about 5 miles after the Carefree Highway and take a right.
Length, yeah, I was hoping for a little longer too, but it's definately a good way to test the waters and see if we wanna try something bigger!! I've also never done an adventure race myself - just 1/2 marathons, triathlons, etc. This should definately be an awesome experience!

Can the teams be co-ed or do I have to wear a wig? ;D

haha, no they're definately co-ed teams. But the max is three people per team, so depending on how many are interested, we might have to form more than one team

Well - I guess we could plan on meeting maybe next Tuesday after the AOC meeting? I guess they normally head over to Lorenzo's, so if somehow we could all find one another, we could talk it over then? We'll have to pick a spot to meet after the meeting is over...any ideas?

I can't make Tuesday meetings because my marathon training group meets that night for a workout. If the majority can after the meeting, let me know what time and I'll do my best to be there (we usually finish at 8pm), but I'd have to take the bus to Lorenzo's....hope this works out:)

Which marathon you training for? Rock 'n Roll or something else?
I did the Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee, WI back in the day.
We usually hang out at Lorenzo's until 10/10:30ish, so that should be plenty of time if you don't mind coming down this way. Only like 10-15 people usually show at Lorenzo's as well (the group that sits in the outside patio), so it should be easy to find those interested in the adventure race. (NE corner of Myrtle & University if you haven't been there)
Leilah, you can announce to meet there if interested for an "orgranizational meeting" at the next AOC meeting in the current trips part.
