48 people + 3 fifteen passenger vans + 1000 miles in 2 days + Red Bull Sponsoring us with a few free cases of energy drink = One heck of a wild weekend!! Road Masters Matt, and Rally Rebel Rob, once again cooked up another journey of unfathomable proportions. This time we lead our unsuspecting flock of overly trusting followers on a hap-hazard madcap of travel and adventure that rivals only second to the 80’s mega hit, “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” Overstocked with people, and under stocked on time, we ventured out of Tempe only an hour and a half late, due to some silly run in with the federal law concerning an imposter Andrew Jackson. But Matt put on his boyish charms (I just cried a lot) and talked our way out of the situation. So it was off to the mountains for us and our entourage. Caravaning North, we first hit Payson’s , “Natural Bridge.” Coming to the gate, a ranger wanted 150 bucks for an entrance fee. I felt this was overpriced, so I used my Jedi mind powers and persuaded him that we should be eligible for a group discount. Naturally he subsided. So $100 lighter we were off to the Natural Bridge. Talk about some grand rock formation! It’s truly awe-inspiring to walk under that much stone and rock. It’s just something you don’t see every day. We all had fun and ran around taking photos and hiking paths. There was a light sprinkling of rain, so it was refreshing.
Back to vans! Then a half an hour latter we where off. (it’s truly mind boggling how long it takes 48 people into 3 vans).
Next stop Flagstaff to get my Brother!
Crap, miscommunicated with my brother. The passengers grew impatient waiting and started wondering to the nearby grocery store. Oh well, can’t redirect a river, so I just let them do their thing. Two hours later we were back on the road.
Basically the rest of the trip was like that. A lot of waiting on a few people whom I like to call “TOBIAS!!” We stopped at Mormon Lake to stretch our legs and for me to drink some red bull (I had already been up for 24 hours). So we missed seeing the sun set at Horseshoe Bend, (drats) but we did get to Lake Powell in time to pay $150 bucks for the rangers to tell us to shut the hell up repeatedly all night long. (I think every one had a great time non-the-less) Around hour 36 of being awake (I think I over did it on the red bull) I finally watched the sun rise over the lake and grabbed an hour and a half of sleep (Plenty!) So up we where all swimming and playing Frisbee in the sun having a great time.
To Sum up the Rest of the Trip, some of the Highlights.
Erik getting a Minor in Possession of Alcohol or (MIP) ticket of about $500.
Party Van creating rivalry with Fiesta de la Caravan by viciously pelting my passengers with marshmallows.
If anyone ever asked, how far?? Two hours. Always two hours.
Antelope Canyon. My new favorite place in Arizona (Through my master diplomatic skills I saved the party over $600 on the tour price)
The Grand Canyon to watch the Sun Set. Unforgettable! (though my misunderstanding of the park system, I underestimated the cost by $500. Sorry Gang.
Some serious Rain on the Drive up Saturday, and everyone doubting the weather conditions of our camping that night. I told them 0% chance of Rain. What did we get. 0% rain. Clear skies and bright stars. Unbelievers….
All you can eat Kentucky Fried Chicken!!!
45 new friends from around the world.
Photos, Photos and more Photos. I think everyone was tired of taking and being in photos. (how bout someone post a few on the AOC Web Site??)
Managing to survive on 6 hours of sleep for 5 days. Buy the end, I was a babbling rambling, mumbling mess. (not that many people noticed a difference).
A weekend to remember for the rest of my life. Thanks everyone for coming. I enjoyed meeting everyone of you.
