If you decided to spend your Labor Day sitting around on your coach relaxing, you missed out on a GREAT trip to do the same exact thing but floating down a river on an inner tube.
This trip was SO MUCH FUN!!!
First on the drive over there, we got mooned. Thanks- we haven't even reached the water yet and people were pulling off their clothes and showing body parts.
I knew this was going to be a great adventure when we were lucky enough to get on "Betty Party Bus" to take us down to the starting point. She was this little old lady with funny hats, a high pitched voice, and was so energetic. This bus was rockin' with good music, decorations, and plenty of laughs. Then things only got better....
Neil brought his river rafting tube which was wonderful! We could all put our bags in his raft so you didn't have to hold anything. Also mostly everyone latched onto the raft so we were the LARGEST floating party going down the river! It was so impressive that even the News Channel 5 helicopter stopped by and flew over us (well maybe its wasn't there specifically for us, but I like to think it did a fly over just for us).
The water was a really nice temperature, just a little chilly when you first got it, but was great when it got hotter during the day. Great scenery and red rocks surrounded us. One of my most favorite sites was turning the corner and seeing a pack of WILD HORSES hanging out in a shallow part of the stream. They were such beautiful creatures and were not startled by us (well- until Kevin decided to go toward them!)
This trip was not all relaxation however, there was some adventure to be had too! There were a couple sections with pretty good rapids considering you were floating on an inner tube. Total excitement during those sections (and total pain if you didn't lift your butt up high enough so it didn't get hit by a rock). Otherwise there were some funny moments when some people accidentally got close to the edges by the bushes and when the raft got stuck by the concrete block.
We even saw Jesus walk on water! Well not really. It was Kevin looking like Jesus while walking on water in the shallow area on the rocks. Then he tripped on the rocks and stumbled into the water. It may have been the rocks or the beer- who knows? But then later on he hitched a ride on the front of a kayaker to catch up to the raft.
This was an awesome trip! All you needed was some sunscreen, water, and your bathing suit. I didn't get too burnt by the sun, and I hope not many people did either. It wasn't extremely crowded either, which turned out to be nice. Still there was plenty of people to talk with, new people to meet, and great stories to share.
I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone! Just make sure to reapply sunscreen and drink water (sorry that's my motherly advice) and make sure to get the Betty's Party Bus!!!
