Hey all, The Redbull Flugtag competition is coming to Tempe Town Lake in April! Summed up, it's a human powered flying machine competition where you launch off a 30' platform into the lake. Winner is based on distance, creativity, and showmanship. www.redbullflugtagarizona.com/default.aspxIt's free admission to watch, so I'll probably lead a trip to it. But... There's still a week left to send in entries! I believe it's free to enter, you just need to have a good enough idea to send in and get picked. The deadline is Feb 17th though (next Fri), so we'd have to move quick. It'd rock though to have an AOC team. You can have 1 pilot (person taking the watery plunge) and up to 4 additional members to help push/present. If anyone else wants to get in on this, let me know. We may need to have 'auditions' if too many want to be official members, but everyone could help build the machine. We also need a meeting to brainstorm and sketch out the model for the application this coming week. Let me know ASAP! -Josh (wittliej@msoe.edu or 480-233-4546 or reply to this)

This sounds like a lot of fun. I checked out the web site and would like to participate as long as you're not banking on my engineering abilities. I didn't realize, when you were telling me about it yesterday, that the deadline was so soon though. When were you thinking of getting together to plan it out and actually register? Jackie

First planning meeting: Tonight, Wed 2-15-06 Meet @ Lorenzo's, 7:30PM
If anyone could bring a laptop to check ideas against teams from the past on the redbull site, that'd be good; or else we can hit up a comp lab.
See ya there!

UPDATEThe team has commited to a caterpillar design that, after being fed a giant leaf (aka Mike the pilot) and a little red bull, sprouts giant wings right as it leaves the platform to (hopefully) fly away into the sunset as a butterfly. Stay tuned for the artist's rendering!
